Customer Reviews - Amber

Copy of a Customer review from Amber posted on Trip Advisor

“Most organized and comfortable dive operation. Great experience.”

We were very happy with our choice to use Sea Fun Divers on our vacation. It was very nice to be able to drop our gear at the hotel dive shop the day before, and have it all ready for us on the boat the next day, and every day thereafter.

Speaking of the boat, I do believe it was the nicest and most organized dive boat I’ve had the pleasure to dive from, and I’ve been on a lot of boats. It was very comfortable, especially considering the dive sites are a bit of a hike to get to. There was plenty of sun or shade for all. The dive crew were also great.

Boris picked us up every morning with a smile. His briefings were very informative. It was also nice to have a small group to dive with, with only 4 people per dive guide. The Phi Phi Islands were beautiful, but I have to say that the King Cruiser wreck and Shark Point were my favorites.

On our last day at Phi Phi, our guide even found 4 seahorses. He was awesome at pointing out all the little treasures for us! The dive crew were all very helpful, from switching our gear over during the lunch, to fixing my camera housing on the boat.

The Thai lunches were delicious, and it was nice to have pineapple and watermelon after the dives. The warm freshwater showers, and the clean bathrooms were also a big hit with us. It was also really cool to see how the dive crew assisted the handicapped gentleman in diving. They weren’t overbearing at all, as he was very independent, but seemed to give him the exact amount of assistance he needed, treating him with respect, and made him part of the group. He was staying at our hotel, and we got to chat with him after the dive. He had a great time, and it was impressive to see how accommodating the dive crew was to his special needs.

Sea Fun Divers created a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere, but still with safety in mind of course. We were some of the more experienced divers on the boat, and it was nice to be paired with other experienced divers, so we could enjoy maximum bottom time. There were several students on the boat as well, but they went with other dive guides. So they got to do what they needed to do, and we still got to enjoy 60 minutes each dive in the beautiful, warm Andaman Sea.

We have already recommended them to other divers. The actual diving wasn't exactly what we were expecting, as I was hoping for more color. The fish life was abundant on some of the dives which was nice, although the vis was more limited than expected. Overall though, Sea Fun Divers definitely contributed to making our Thailand experience a great one, and I would definitely recommend them and dive with them myself in the future :-)

Customer Reviews - Paul

"Hi Rene, hope your well.

Nothing to add from my end. The service is every bit as good as i remember, just wish we had more time to dive. We were over for a wedding but we hope to get back very soon to concentrate on the diving and head up to the Surin and Similian islands.

Do you have a liveaboard service?

The last time i went was on Jonathan Cruiser with Thomas Kroon ( Scuba Venture) he was the guy who gave me your number.

Thanks Rene.

Hope to see you soon.

Best Regards

Paul

The all new PADI Self Reliant Diver Course

PADI Self Reliant Diver Course

Instructor Roger with Self Reliant Diver Student Mike
PADI’s overall training programs and philosophy support the proven system of diving with a partner for several reasons, not the least of which are its contributions to diver safety.

PADI also recognizes that experienced divers, after being trained in the skills, knowledge and safety techniques of solo diving in a self-reliant manner, can be prepared to dive independent of a partner.

Those experienced divers, through proper training (as in the PADI Self-Reliant Diver Specialty course) learn knowledge and skills in solo dive planning, life support system readiness, adaptive training, equipment preparedness and diving responsibly to compensate for situations when diving alone.

PADI's position is clear; independent diving proponents should advocate responsible independent diving on its own unique merits, requisite training, and equipment needs and not through sensationalized attempts to disparage a proven safety system that has served the majority of recreational scuba divers well.

General Purpose

Self-Reliant Diver Specialty Course
The purpose of the Self-Reliant Diver specialty course is to recognize and accept the role of the buddy system and its contributions to diver safety while identifying and developing self-reliance and independence while diving.

There are two reasons for an experienced diver to take the Self-Reliant diver course:
  • To develop the skills of planning and carrying out dives without a partner when preferred or necessary.
  • To sharpen skills of diving self-reliance, making the diver a stronger partner in a dive pair or team.
This course covers when diving alone may be applicable, and the need to compensate for those situations, including solo dive planning, life support system readiness, adaptive training, equipment and responsibility. This course is an introduction to self-reliant diving that helps student divers develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to rely on themselves first, whether or not they are diving with a partner, including:
  •  The value and application of the buddy system.
  • The philosophy of, and motivation for, diving without a partner.
  • Potential risks of diving alone, and how to manage those risks.
  • The value of equipment redundancy and what back-up equipment is needed.
  • Dive planning and gas management.
As long as you are at least an Advanced Open Water Diver and have 100 logged dives you can sign up for this course. The course can be conducted over a day doing 3 dives on the boat, or spread over a couple of days with first doing a dive off the beach then a following day two further dives.

Customer Reviews - David

Jack also told PADI about his great time & experience at Sea Fun Divers. Due to it PADI  issued Certificate of excellence for Sea Fun Divers

Thanks a lot Jack ! Look forward to welcome you again in December.

"Hi Nick.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big big thank you to yourself, Rene and the rest of the team at Sea Fun Divers who have made our family holidays over the past five years so memorable and exiting.

Master Scuba Diver
The friendliness, professionalism and facilities you have are second to none and impressed us yet again at Christmas 2011, when we had the opportunity to dive from your newlyrefurbished dive boat which we found extremely well equipped and comfortable with friendly staff and dive guides.

Since you introduced all of us to the incredible underwater world of scuba diving, you have never failed to impress. Both yours and Sea Funs passion and drive to ensure both our dive experiences and holidays have been more than fulfilled time and time again.

Your friendly experienced staff have made so many dives memorable, I especially love diving with Boris and Pear as they seem to know where all the best sea life can be found, anything from Manta Rays, Turtles, Black Tipped Reef Sharks to Sea Horses, the list is endless. Also the course instructors Roger, Giel, Squid and not forgetting yourself. All very professional but still ensuring that learning can be fun. Having met them time and time again, we regard them now as personal friends.

Also thanking you again Nick for taking me through my, "Master Scuba Diver Course", and the last speciality course you did with me, "Self Reliant Diver".

Can't wait for Christmas, 2012.

Kind Regards.
David Jack"

Customer Reviews - Mike

"Hi Sea Fun

I just completed an excellent special designation course with Sea Fun Divers In Phuket. I took PADI Self Reliant Diver Course with Instructor Roger Chubb

Mike and Self Reliant Diver Instructor roger Chubb
The course material was brief , but  the instruction and 3 dives were super providing more focus on self-rescue and self-reliant diving skills. By using a  redundant air supply and other equipment plus increased awareness of one’s air consumption under various conditions, one becomes a more competent diver.

In addition to the one shore dive, the 2 boat dives were superb @ PHI PHI from Sea Fun’s recently renovated boat with dive  management under legendary Boris.

I will continue to recommend that anyone who wants to fun dive or undertake dive courses  in and around Phuket look to SEA FUN DIVERS for a great experience!

Cheers
Mike McSorley"

Customer Reviews - Ashley and Ingrid

Diving day trip to  King Cruiser Wreck, Shark Point & Koh Doc Mai

"Dear Rene,

Thanks for asking and as a matter of fact I will take the chance to give some feedback The diving was challenging as there was a strong current at Shark point, but the experience was very enjoyable. The boat was good and very stable. There was a lot to see and Boris was helpful in pointing out things, even a ghost pipe fish.

Overall I would rate the day positively but there were some negatives. My wife Ingrid was snorkelling and really none of the sites were apprpriate in her opinion so I would suggest that you tell future clients to forget snorkelling on this trip. Most disappointing was that she was assured of crew attentiveness to her and would be picked up when she signalled. She was left in the water alone at Shark Point and her signals were not picked up by your crew and she had to be picked up by a small speedboat whose crew noticed her signals and went to her aid , returning her to the Sea Fun Divers boat. A less experienced person may not have coped so well..

Also , on my second dive at King Cruiser, Boris , my private guide, spent at least 10 minutes helping another guide with some American divers who had joined the boat before that dive . I have no problem with helping out in an emergency but was not happy that my dive was no longer privately guided simply because other divers did not follow instructions or there were too many divers for the available guides. So on this dive I probably did not get to explore as much as other divers in your group dives who took off straight away and had no impediment to their progress.

I would not want that to happen next time. Of lesser importance the food was lukewarm rather than hot. I know this is difficult on a boat but if hot food is to be served it should be hot.

I will be back in Thailand next dry season to dive again ( this was my first time diving with you but I had dived in Thailand before ) so it would be good if those things didn't happen next time.

Regards Ashley and Ingri"
