Customer Reviews - Michele from Italy

Michele really seems to have gotten a great deal out our Open Water Course with instructor Rene ...

giorni.

Ciao,
Michele

Our Staff with a customer

Shaun Taylor found a great way to celebrate this holiday season, first an open water review course with our staff, then a spectacular liveaboard trip to the Similans (See map of dive sites below), where he completed his Advanced Open Water Diver course.

Read now Shaun's review ....

Here is a nice picture of Shaun with some of our instructors to help him remember his experience.

Great Pictures of Diving near the Similans from John

Two days ago (mid December) Instructor Rene was in the Similans with his student John Ottman from Rhode Island, USA. John was finishing off his Open Water course and doing his Advance course and took some beautiful pictures to remember his experience.

Looks like John had a memorable time and enjoyed his time underwater -

Customer Review - Theresa from Korea, Dec 2011

Theresa and her husband really enjoyed their day with us....

We had a really good time on our dive/snorkel trip. No complaints!

The pick up & drop off at the Outrigger was perfect. The boat & staff were great.

We didn't really eat much of the lunch - we were feeling a bit seasick, but the fruit and morning sandwiches were nice.

All told - just lovely!!

I've left positive feedback on tripadvisor.com as well.

Thanks again for helping us get this lined up in advance. It was nice to be on vacation & know all the details were already worked out.

Customer Reviews - Jackie & Chris

Nick

Jackie and I wanted to e-mail you, to let you know how pleased and impressed we were with Sea Fun Divers.
We would like to say a big thank you to Roger for his patience in teaching Jackie and the way in which he dealt with Jackie’s trepidations over a few aspects of the training.
Roger did an excellent job of guiding and re-assuring her about the various aspects of it. As a beginner, it was an alien environment to her, but with Roger’s professionalism and her determination, she passed the OW course. She cannot wait for the next opportunity to gain experience.
I would also like to mention and praise the expertise of Boris and the rest of the Sea Fun team who made the open water diving as safe as possible in variable conditions.
We would have no problem in recommending Sea Fun Divers to anyone who was intending to go diving in Thailand. In fact, as soon as we can afford to come back to Thailand, we will be booking more diving with yourselves.

Kind Regards and a Happy Xmas

From
Chris and Jackie Farr

Customer Feedback after sailing on the Sai Mai

Hi Ingo,

I just wanted to say thank you for arranging such a fantastic liveaboard experience. Sarah and I had an amazing time. The diving was great, and Andreas and the whole crew on the MV Sai Mai were wonderful. The boat was super comfortable as well. The only bump was that the disposable underwater camera broke when I was trying to load the 2nd roll of film, but I don't think those cameras are made to last long. We'll just have to remember the dives for ourselves!

Andreas was going to take care of returning the dive equipment we rented to the dive shop after we were dropped off at the airport, I hope it got there alright.

Thanks so much!
Katie

Hi Diego, yes thanks we thoroughly enjoyed the course. We were really happy with our instructor Gil and the facilities and the boat. Was great fun! Cheers, James

Comments from another satisfied customer after sailing on the South Siam 3

Thank You Diego,

The trip was fantastic! All went well, the pickup/drop from the airport was easy, your staff in Patong was great, and the crew of the South Siam 3 was equally as good. The diving was fantastic with unbelievably warm water temps. Might have been a little early in the season yet for the big fish, but overall it was still phenomenal. Look forward to next year. Have a Great Day!

Mike

Dive Mask - Guide for Scuba Diving Gear

Choose your dive mask
Diving Mask

Your eyes cannot focus in water. Your dive mask provides an air pocket so your eyes can focus and you can see clearly underwater.

Its also known as dive mask, scuba mask or goggles.

Sea Fun Divers as a PADI Dive center has a large selection of masks to choose from. The following points are needed for a a proper dive mask:

  • Your nose must be within the eye pocket so you can adjust for pressure changes. This is the main reason why swim goggles cannot be used for scuba diving.
  • Tempered glass as plastic lenses  & standard glass is hazardous if accidentally broken.

Features you like to have and also found in more less all masks made for scuba diving are:

  • A double skirt - Makes mask seal more reliable and comfortable
  • A wide strap with touch buckle adjustment - Mask adjusts quickly, easily and stay adjusted during the dive

Visit on of our dive shops and we can help you find all the right mask and other scuba gear

Optional features you might like are:
  • A low volume as the the smaller the mask, the less drag it has while diving. Your face may require something a bit larger, so don't consider this an absolute.
  • A purge valve which is used to blow water out, however this you can do easily without a valve so not really needed
  • Special lenses - Some scuba masks can be fitted with prescription lenses, which is convenient if you wear glasses or use contacts.
How you choose a mask?
For most divers the problem in choosing the right mask. Best way to find the right one is to choose several different masks with the features you like and than ... hold each mask gently against your face (Please do not use the strap) and  inhale gently through your nose and if they fit, the mask(s) will stick to your face and stay where they are without leaking and without continuous suction through your nose. Than simply choose the one that fits best.

Finally a few tips:
Don't save money and buy a cheap mask. They may look the same, however the important things you can't see (the quality of silicone& glass) as just as important as those you can. Your mask is one of your most important pieces of scuba gear as if you only have a dive mask, you can still have fun swimming & snorkeling in the shallow parts of the reef looking at the tropical fish, shells and other stuff. But if you have every piece of scuba dive gear except a mask, you not even get wet.

Scrub out the mask and use defog to prevent mask fog, which plagues many beginning divers, however it is actually easy to prevent as all you need to do is first scrub out a new mask with toothpaste as recommended by many manufacturers. This will remove a chemical that sometimes coats the glass during the manufacturing and causes the fog up. This you only need to do this when you get a new mask. Then, before your dives just use defogging solution and your mask will stay fog free and you can a have a great time under water.

Breaking News - Whale Shark on 16th July 2011

Today on the first day of our Phi Phi Overnight charter  we had again an incredible encounter with a whaleshark.

The divers came up from the dive back to MV Sai Mai with tears of joy in their eyes, telling that they spent almost all the time diving at a depth 5 meters together with this about 4 mt. whale shark.

The magic took place near the Phuket dive site of Shark Point, located between Phuket and Phi Phi islands. The funny thing is that “their new friend” had then decided to literally follow the boat for a few more minutes on the route to Phi Phi.

Whale Shark at Koh Doc Mai

Unexpected close encounter with TWO whale sharks

Whale Shark Diving Phuket
On 27th June, during a nice as usual dive in Koh Doc Mai, small island between Phuket and Phi Phi Island me and the rest of the diving group have been witnesses of a kind of underwater miracle. After about 30-35 minutes diving we were gradually ascending along the wall until, at the depth of 12 meters, I heard the loud and persistent noise from the shaker of another dive guide located about 30 meters further than me. Judging from the way my colleague shook his tool, I understood that he wanted to get the attention of everybody, maybe because something very interesting was in the area, but of course I would have never been expecting a whale shark!

At this point me and the rest of the dive group left the wall, heading to the blue, where slowly I've seen a shadow getting closer and bigger. After a few seconds, still incredulous and taken by an indescribable emotion I've found myself exactly in front of the huge head of this about 9 meters long whale shark. After about 30 seconds or so spent swimming strongly to follow the giant, he decided to investigate on us little divers so he started to turn all around us...incredible, but even more incredible when I turned myself and I spotted a second whale shark coming, this one about 6 meters long. After joining each other, despite their size, they gracefully twirled around us for a couple of times more and then unfortunately took their way and quickly disappeared in the blue. I don't know how long they spent with us, I lost the track of time, but those have been moments of pure, genuine emotion!

This magic Thailand never stops to give surprises, both on land and at sea...but in this case, especially at the sea!!!

Customer Reviews - John - April 2011

Thailand Liveaboard trip onboard MV Colona VI

"Dear Ingo,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I only got back to San Francisco this Tuesday.

The trip went well, very well in fact. I was somewhat concerned about it considering all the rain we had in Phuket the week before it was to leave. The weather was perfect and we missed no dives. The islands themselves were beautiful. I was able to snorkel at all the dive sites but one; and the snorkelling was usually quite good.

The crew on the Colona was excellent and did everything they could to make the trip a success. The food was good and the quarters satisfactory. I always had excellent support when I snorkelled in places where the curent was fast and during night dives. I always felt safe.

I saw a variety of fish although nothing exceptional; no mantas, no whale sharks, some green turtles, some rays, some divers saw an octapus and a few saw some black tipped shark.

My one reservation about the trip relates to the condition of the reef. It seems to have suffered a lot of damage. Some of the damage may be from excessive use. I also heard that a heat waave last year caused a lot of damage to the reef as well. I also encountered other signs of degredation, plastick bags, bits of cloth, torn-off ropes. I have been sea kayaking and snorkeling in the Solomon Islands and in Papua, New Guinea and remember the pristine reefs in both those places. Because they could go down further, I think the divers had better views of the reef.

Thank you for your help in helping me to arrange this trip. I would gladly go again or plan on doing similiar trips in the future.

John

Thailand Liveaboard trip to Similan Islands and Richelieu Rock with MV South Siam IV

"Hi Ingo.

We had a lovely time apart from I was poorly and due to this causing ear problems, I was only able to do the one dive! Fortunately, I managed to be in the presence of a 4 metre manta at Richlieu Rock whilst snorkelling, which was amazing

The staff on the boat were great, the food was good and it was a lovely experience. Would definately do it again (when we have money as we have managed to spend it all on enjoying ourselves, but it was worth it!).

Only issue we had was after I attempted a dive & subsequently aborted, we had great difficulty in attracting the boat to be picked up. After about 10 minutes with no joy, they had to be signalled by another dive boat to pick us up! Perhaps a training issue that they need to be a bit more vigilant as it could be a serious issue if there was a diver in distress or needing medical attention.

Greg was an excellent dive guide for Haydn & Manuel who fully enjoyed the experience with him and he was great company.

Hopefully if we can afford to, we shall be back again next week and in the meantime I wish you all the best to you and your family.

Kind regards.

Emma"

Customer Reviews - Chipper - Feb 2011

Similan & Surin Island Liveaboard trip with MV Nautica

"Hi Ingo.

Regarding MobyDick / Nautica - there were many positive aspects:
  • very nice boat
  • crew was GREAT – cook amazing, helpers very nice and helpful
  • efficient, security conscious, good divers
However, some negatives that made a difference:
  • dive master thought more about his own pleasure while diving instead of his clients’ preferences
  • no sense of camaraderie/ evening games/fun activity
  • dive masters condescending about their skill level versus that of the guests
  • had to pay for everything (lamp for evening dive), including new log book, even though we took a course for $$$.
So overall, we had a very good time but would not dive with Moby Dick again.

As for SeaFun, we were VERY pleased with your service. You were very responsive and helpful in the planning stage, and right on time with good equipment, etc., at our hotel. We won't hesitate to recommend you / call on you again.

Excuse me directness, but I hope that helps you.
Thanks again.

Thank you for checking with me about my experience on The June Hong Chian Lee. It was an AWESOME experience and I most certainly plan to dive from her in the future! The Junk was the experience I was looking for! The food was really good and the service provided by the dive crew was very on point. Mick was my instructor for my AOW certification completion and was very good with his instruction. Keith was an excellent dive guide and hope to dive with them in the future. I had nothing but a pleasant experience booking the Junk and renting all my gear through Sea Fun Divers. I have 6 more years in my current job and will be completing a Dive Master Certification if not Dive Instructor. I have seriously considered making this my job after I retire from my current job with the US Air Force... Open Water Diver course on South Siam III plus day trip to Richelieu Rock

"Hello Ingo and Rene,

My wife and I are back in Vietnam. Trust me that starting work again after 10 days off in Thailand requires a lot of motivation!

We are very happy about our diving experience and absolutely pleased by your overall service quality. We will recommend your shop around us. Our sincere thanks to John who did his job professionally and pleasantly at all times.

Nevertheless, there are a couple of disagreements coming from mis-communication that we did not expect from you. I felt important to share them with you.
1. On day 2 of our trip, we were escorted to Siam III for a two day trip in the Similan islands. John was meant to accompany us for the first day, and so did he. We were surprised to hear that the master divers on board were not aware about John’s departure after two dives on that day. We hooked up with other teams and everything went fine. Although, feeling that the diving shop had forgotten this element did not make us feel totally comfortable when the matter came up.

2. On day 3 of our trip, we were dropped back in Khao Lak. Ingo had planned that a pick-up would wait for us in Khao Lak pier to take us to Walkers’ inn for the night, since we were meant to go for a 1 day trip to Richelieu on day 4. Surprisingly, one pick-up was ready to take us back to Phuket, and the Khao Lak pickup had no idea about us. The various phone calls between Ingo, Rene, the driver and myself were annoying. Other divers had to wait for our story to be sorted to be brought to their hotel. The waiting time, the calls, the roaming cost, the look from people waiting added up and was not a pleasant time.

No hard feelings. Again, thanks a lot for your service.

Best,

Alkis"

Customer Reviews - Jason

To all,

"Hello, my name is Jason and I recently stayed in Phuket at Katathani (01 Dec 2010 - 18 Dec 2010) and got my Open Water certification through your Dive Shop located at the resort. First of all I would like to say "Thank You". Your staff was very professional, fun, and safe. Thanks to them I had an amazing experience and even scheduled an extra dive to Phi Phi. I am planning to come back to Phuket sometime in the June/July time frame and am interested in getting my Advanced Open Water Certification through your dive shop...

The dive instructor I had was Guille (Pronounced Gill - I apologize If I got his name wrong) and I would especially like to thank him for introducing me to the wonderful world 18 meters below. He took the time to answer all my questions and to make me feel completely comfortable with this new experience. The information and experience he gave me opened my eyes and mind up to the undersea world. It was truly a life changing moment and I cant wait to go again. Thank you"

la crociera è stata magnifica, proprio una bella esperienza.
Belle immersioni, ottimo equipaggio, buon cibo e bel tempo.
Niente super avvistamenti ma già di per sè fondali mozzafiato da soddisfare qualsiasi sub.
Spero di poterla ripetere nel tempo.
Grazie ancora e buon lavoro.
p.s. qui fa un freddo cane e ti invidio a pensarti lì in infradito e shorts.
Ciao.

Claudio

Customer Reviews - Sandy - South Siam IV December 2010

Sandy & Alex on South Siam IV on a trip to Similan Islands in December 2010

... A discussion forum recommended the South Siam IV for its flexibility & my random google turned up SeaFun rather than South Siam directly. I didn't really understand that you were more of a middle man and to be honest I'm not sure I would have booked that way if I had understood that - just due to the perception that a middle man likely wouldn't add much value ...

... The SSIV was a perfect fit for our timing. I did see a very favorable write up about your company in the LP so that boosted my confidence to book with you. Also, Ingo was really easy to deal with. Knowledgeable, etc.

... The equipment was fine and everyone we dealt with on your end was great. On the boat itself, Alex & I both felt that they moved too fast and loose, particularly on that first dive. No one checked our credentials or asked about our level of experience. The dive master moved really quickly on the first dive & I was so uncomfortable I just swam back to the boat. After that, things were more well-paced & they were responsive to my concerns. So it wasn't a problem in the end. Just a rough start....

... Helpful, efficient & answering your phone! It is such a relief to have someone answer the phone when you are trying to arrange something like this.

Customer Reviews - Lisa & Marty - PADI Open Water Diver course

Open Water Diver Course with Sea Fun Divers in December 2010

.... Staying at Le Meridien & positive referral from Siam Dive N Sail ...Flexible enough to handle our late request, had the level of training we were looking for, location at the hotel ...

Overall the office/equipment met my needs. The only real improvement I’d suggest is to provide a better dive log book. It only offers entries for the most basic of info. Other logs I’ve seen have had input for air in/out, temp, visibility, etc. I’m an engineer and I like details. For future dives I’ll likely buy a more comprehensive log book ...

Everyone in the office was very polite and friendly, but my dive instructor Aleu (my apologies if I spelled his name incorrectly) did a particularly great job. Even before I received this survey, I planned on dropping you a line to put in a good word for Aleu. At the start, I was not the most comfortable person in the water. Aleu kept me calm and helped me build confidence in my water skills. He kept the atmosphere very loose (which made it fun rather than stressful), and helped me overcome my fears. I felt safe under Aleu’s direction, and he made it a positive overall experience for me ...

I would give your services a positive recommendation based on the comments I gave in question 4. I would also highlight that you were flexible and organized the lessons around my tight schedule. This was much appreciated ...

Continue to keep it a relaxed and personal atmosphere. I liked the fact that during breaks I could get a coffee and BS with the staff. My timing was tight, and you worked with me to make the program meet my schedule. Ordering lunch for me so I did not waste time going out to get it made my life easier. In summary, continue to cater to the customer’s schedule and needs in a personal fashion.
